What does this mean in practice?

Our approach when designing Intranet applications is simple. We always ask our clients the question, "What are the most time-consuming, repetitive, and error-prone tasks in your organization?" If procedures don't exist for these tasks, we help our clients sketch them out and find ways to make them more efficient. Since Intranet applications only exist on one (or sometimes more) servers at your office or co-located at a data center, there is no need to configure or deploy on multiple workstations anytime there is a change or update to the software. In fact most changes can be made live without disrupting the company's operations.

Ease of Use

Since Intranet applications are work with standard Internet browsers, most employees already know the basics how to operate the application. Who doesn't know how to click a hyperlink or fill in a form? We only need to train them on the specifics of your applications.

Flexible Deployment

Since Intranet applications operate over the network your users don't actually have to be in the office to use them. Using a secure connection (a VPN), they can work at a remote site, their home office, or even while on the road.

Plus, you're not limited to having the application run on Windows-based PCs. They can also operation on MacIntosh, Linux-based systems, or even PDAs and cell phones.

Security

Because the actual data sits on a secure server rather than in a desktop application, none of your critical data is stored on users' computer. If the computer crashes or is stolen you don't have to worry about losing it or it falling into the wrong hands.

Most applications include "role-based security", meaning the functions that a particular user is allowed to access is defined by their role in the organization.
